GCTC American Spirit Team Hosts Constitution Day Assembly

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Students from Gordon Cooper Technology Center’s SkillsUSA American Spirit team hosted a Constitution Day assembly Thursday.

The assembly included a presentation on how to register to vote from Patricia Carter of the Pottawatomie County Election Board, and discussion about the constitution with Pre-Engineering Academy Instructor Ron Markum.

Constitution Day, observed on Sept. 17, is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution.

After the morning and afternoon assemblies, 62 eligible students registered to vote.

The American Spirit team is composed of SkillsUSA members from Gordon Cooper Technology Center. The team must carry out three projects each year and then present those projects at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Contest. The three projects must be focused on community service, citizenship and promotion of career and technical education.

Gordon Cooper Technology Center is an accredited institution and is one of 29 Career and Technical education options within Oklahoma's globally recognized Career Tech System.
