LPN Enrollment Open at GCTC

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The enrollment period for the Gordon Cooper Technology Center Division of Practical Nursing is now open for the full-time option.

Completed applications must be in the Nursing Office by March 31.

Practical Nursing is an adult program that prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses.

The class begins in August and is an approximately 11-month program. Classes meet Monday through Friday, with classroom hours typically 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. Clinical hours for this option vary, often starting earlier in the morning or extend later in the day. Occasional evening hours or twelve-hour shifts may be required.

Course content is divided into three semesters; curriculum covers biological and social sciences, nursing skills, nursing and medical theory, nursing process, professional relationships, job readiness and clinical experience.

The TABE pre-entrance assessment test is required for all applicants. All testing must be completed at Gordon Cooper Technology Center by March 29. To schedule pre-entrance testing, call Cynthia Coomer at 405-273-7493, extension 2239.

The nursing program is open to both male and female applicants who possess the physical, intellectual and emotional qualities needed to become a practical nurse. Applicants must be high-school graduates or have successfully passed the General Educational Development (GED) test. Financial aid is available for qualified applicants.
