Blended Learning Opportunities

 

One-Semester, Flex Schedule Certifications For High School Seniors in: 

   Health, Emergency Medical Responder & Machining

 

When: Gordon Cooper Technology Center is offering Blended Learning opportunities for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters. Students have the option of attending the morning (8:15 am-11:15 am) or afternoon class (12:55 pm-3:55 pm).

 

Where: Learning will take place at Gordon Cooper Technology Center-Shawnee Campus and through online training modules.

 

Who: High School Seniors that are looking for an opportunity to complete Health, EMR or Machining classes in order to prepare for careers. 

 

What: Fall 2019 Semester blended learning classes will occur starting August 9, 2019 and end December 20, 2019.  Spring 2020 Semester blended learning classes will occur starting January 6, 2020 and end May 20, 2020.   Students will be allowed to ride the Gordon Cooper buses on Wednesdays & Fridays for class labs, testing, and clinical.  Students will be expected to work online Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays on various assignments including: watching videos, workbook pages, online learning, and preparing for tests.

These will be non-credit classes. The home school may choose to grant career exploration or internship elective credit. 

 

Why:  GCTC is providing students an additional opportunity to study and gain certifications that will increase the chance to gain employment.

 

 

Blended Learning CNA Program

 

Do you have a desire to help people?  Are you curious what steps you would need to take to work in the health care field?

The Blended Learning Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program offers a unique opportunity to high school seniors who are looking for ways to gain employment and improve their education.

 The CNA course will include certifications for Long Term Care, Home Health Aide, American Heart Association CPR/BLS and Medical Terminology.      Sixteen clinical hours are required for Long Term Care and will be scheduled separately. This is a semester long course with mandatory classroom hours for each certification area.  Students are encouraged to come to class Monday thru Friday to ensure hour requirements are being met. Students have the option of attending our morning (8:15 am-11:15 am) or afternoon class (12:55 pm-3:55 pm).

 

Prerequisites to enroll: Two negative TB Skin Test results, Photo ID, Social Security Card.  Prior to clinical (November 2019) students will need one set of scrubs, watch with second hand and hand sanitizer. Books and blood pressure cuff and stethoscope are included.

 

Costs for CNA: Scrubs approximately $30 (ordered in class at GCTC)

Skills testing $50, Written exam $50.  Scholarships are available.

Blended Learning EMR Program

 

Do you have a desire to help people?  Are you curious what steps you would need to take to work in the health care field?

The Blended Learning EMR course is an entry-level emergency medical provider course for High School Seniors that will prepare individuals for employment in a variety of pre-hospital, industrial and first responder setting.  This online course is 64 total hours and is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills to manage many medical and trauma-related emergencies.  Upon successful completion of this course, completers are eligible to seek either Oklahoma State Certification or National Certification through the National Registry of EMT’s. 

 

Prerequisites to enroll: Proficient Reading Skills are required (at least 8th grade reading level). All hourly requirements will be met in the classroom/lab and students are encouraged to attend class Monday thru Friday.  Students have the option of attending our morning (8:15 am-11:15 am) or afternoon class (12:55 pm-3:55 pm). Assignments are due weekly.  The 1st nine weeks will consist of STEM, Medical Terminology and CPR/BLS. This class is offered for high school seniors.

 

Cost for EMR: Class shirt (ordered in class at GCTC) and supplies $40    

Testing fee: Oklahoma State Certification $25

Blended Learning Machining Program

 

Do you like to work with your hands?  Are you curious what steps you would need to take to work machining and manufacturing?

The Blended Learning Machining course is an entry-level program that allows learners to do a substantial amount of course work on their own schedule.  This unique program blends flexible learning with actual hands-on skills training. 

 

Prerequisites to enroll: Proficient Reading Skills are required (at least 8th grade reading level). Students must attend a two-hour orientation class to learn the details of the program and receive materials.  Students will complete about 600 hours of on-line course work on their own time and meet every Thursday from 2:00pm-6:00pm for skills lab at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center Shawnee Campus.  Computer labs for on-line course work are available at GCTC.      This class will be for high school seniors only. Most students will take 4-three month quarters (2 semesters) to complete the course work.

 

Certifications Available: NIMS Metalworking Certificate, OSHA 10, Forklift.

This will be a non-credit class. The home school may choose to grant career exploration or internship elective credit.
