Early Care and Education

Gordon Cooper Technology Center offers full time career pathways to high school juniors, seniors and adults. High School students are eligible to receive math credit for various career majors. Courses are offered from 8:15 to 11:15 AM and 12:55 to 3:55 PM Monday through Friday. A student can choose to attend either the AM or PM session or both sessions. All students must be assessed before entering a career major.

Early Care and Education is designed for students with an interest in caring for and teaching young children. Students apply concepts learned in the classroom as they work with children in the ECE children's center. This provides a balance of theory and practical experience. Students learn theories and techniques to plan and present activities that are developmentally appropriate for the age of the children. Students will take certification test that will be embedded throughout the Early Childhood Education Program. ELCCT, Assistant Teacher, Master Teacher are certifications that aid and increase the starting salary/benefits from the employer.

Information on the GCTC child care center:

Parents are strongly encouraged to pre-enroll children for the ECE Center.  Pre-enrollment allows for better planning and better care for all of the children.  Priority for enrollment is given to those children who will attend the ECEC on a full-time basis.  In the event that ECEC cannot accommodate all the applicants, children will be placed on a waiting list.   Enrollment is limited.

Operating hours are 7:30 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday through Friday.
