Smart is the New Cool!

About 70 girls ages K-8 had a blast at the very cool Gordon Cooper Technology Center Mother/Daughter STEM evening. The girls and their female mentors enjoyed hands-on activities as they learned all about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Never Limit Yourself

Never limit yourself. That’s the motto of Gordon Cooper Technology Center’s two FIRST Tech Challenge robotics teams. The enthusiasm and innovation implied in that motto paid off for the Atomic Gears and Iron Giants FTC teams during the 2018 Regional Championship at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford Feb. 16-17.

Shoes Tell a Lot About a Person

Shoes tell a lot about a person, especially when the shoes are a one-of-a-kind work of art. Gordon Cooper Technology Center Graphic Design student Jeffrey Morehead of Prague uses an airbrush, brushes, paint pens and special paints to bring colorful scenes to life on canvas shoes.

Commencement exercises, capping and pinning for the GCTC Practical Nursing daytime class were held Thursday, June 29 at the GCTC main campus seminar center.

Gates closed

The morning of Saturday, June 24, 2017 the GCTC Main Campus will be closed. The gates will be locked and no vehicles will be able to enter the campus from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Shawnee Fire Department will be using the main campus to conduct testing and training during this time.

This year's Gordon Cooper Technology Center graduation ceremony was held Tuesday, May 23 at Firelake Arena. A nice ceremony was held for the 325 GCTC grads of 2017.

Founding Board President Remembered

We are remembering the life and work of GCTC's founding school board president William A. Weaver. Bill Weaver died Feb. 25 at age 93. Mr. Weaver served on our board 18 years. He was inducted into the Gordon Cooper Hall of Fame in 2005. Bill's son, Bob Weaver, serves on the GCTC Education Foundation Board of Directors. Services for Bill Weaver were held Wednesday, March 1 at Walker Funeral Home. Please keep the Weaver family in your thoughts and prayers.

On Saturday, Nov 19, GCTC hosted a FIRST Lego League Robotics Tournament and Jr. FLL Expo. This event was for elementary and middle school age students.

First Tech Challenge

GCTC is hosting FTC Robotics Tournament Saturday, Nov 12. FTC stands for FIRST Tech Challenge, part of a series of robotic competitions sponsored by FIRST Robotics. This tournament is a qualifier for the state tournament held in Weatherford in February.
